Los hackers quieren innovar, explorar, desean descubrir lo nuevo, “Discover new bounds where no one has ever gone before” como lo dice el Capitán Picard en el inicio de cada episodio de Star Trek Enterprise.

Esa voluntad se ilustra en Bill Gosper que se apasiona por el juego LIFE o por el juego SpaceWar que crea un mundo donde alienes invaden la tierra. Gosper ilustra ese gusto por los nuevos universos como un deseo de ser pionero en un mundo donde todo ya fue descubierto.
